Chapter 1: The Spotted Piglet
On Sunny Meadow Farm, where the grass grew soft and the apple trees swayed in the breeze, there lived a very special piglet named Polly.
Polly had a curly pink tail, floppy pink ears, and a wiggly pink snout—just like all the other piglets. But there was something different about Polly. Something that made everyone stop and stare.
Polly was covered in bright blue polka dots.
They dotted her back like little blueberries. They sprinkled across her ears like tiny painted circles. They even decorated her round little tummy.
Polly thought her dots were rather nice. That is, until the other piglets started asking questions.
"Why do you look like that?" asked a piglet named Gus, tilting his head.
"What's wrong with your skin?" squeaked tiny Mabel.
"You look funny," said Chester, the biggest piglet of all. "Pigs aren't supposed to have spots. Pigs are supposed to be pink. Just plain pink."
Polly looked down at her blue-dotted hooves. For the first time ever, she felt her cheeks grow hot with embarrassment.
Maybe Chester was right. Maybe she did look funny.
