About this book

Summary

Penny clutches her stuffed bunny tight as she walks through the big doors of preschool for the very first time. Everything feels too loud, too bright, and too scary. While all the other children laugh and play together, Penny hides in the quiet reading corner, wondering if she'll ever be brave enough to make a friend. But sometimes courage comes in the smallest moments—and the biggest adventures start with just one deep breath.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1: The Big Doors

Penny held her mommy's hand very, very tight.

The preschool doors were SO big. They were red like an apple and had a shiny gold handle. Penny could hear laughing and talking coming from inside.

Her tummy felt wiggly, like there were butterflies doing somersaults in there.

"Ready, sweetheart?" Mommy asked.

Penny shook her head. She was NOT ready. She hid behind Mommy's legs and peeked around with just one eye.

"It's okay to feel nervous," Mommy said softly. "Everyone feels nervous sometimes."

But Penny didn't think anyone else felt as nervous as her. She squeezed her stuffed bunny, Mr. Flopsy, extra tight. Mr. Flopsy had long ears and a pink nose and he was the best bunny in the whole wide world.

Mommy opened the big red doors, and they walked inside together.
